One of South Africa’s biggest challenges is the lack of information and access to medical care for people in low resource communities.
In 2012 The South African government introduced mandatory hearing-tests for schoolchildren, however due to a lack of experts, resources and funds, its implementation is not progressing as planned. Globally, 1.1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss due to exposure to noise in recreational settings. |

Low resource, South African communities are often forgotten and problems remain undetected and untreated. It is critical to equip people with hearing healthcare education, infrastructure such as Ear Examinations, Screenings, Tests and Hearing Aid Fitments at a young age to pursue optimal health care.
In order to close the gap and provide effective preventive and treatment services to low-resource South African youth, The Luv Your Ears Foundation have developed the Happy Hearing initiative. Targeted at primary school learners, the Happy Hearing initiate delivers fun, educational workshops and free ear screenings to low resource South African youth.
Luv Your Ears believe the prevention, identification and treatment of hearing loss, specifically amongst youth, is vital to unlocking the full potential of the next generation of South Africa's leaders.
