As one of the most marginalized groups in society, millions of hearing impaired and Deaf have little to no access to the education, resources, skills development or income needed to lead a normal life. Leaving low resource hearing impaired and Deaf trapped in a never-ending poverty cycle.
It’s no secret that smartphones, access to the internet and social media has changed the way the world communicates. Compared with just a decade ago, we know more about people’s lives (and their kids’ lives) than ever before.
But there's one group for whom the advent of social media was literally life-changing, and that's the Deaf community! Those who grew up without the ability to hear or speak have always faced significant difficulties communicating with the outside world, even if they learned sign language. The Generosity Digital initiative was founded in partnership with Got Game, with the sole mission to empower unemployed and low resource Deaf throughout South Africa with resources, skills and income opportunities within the digital and online landscape.
