Radio remains an important medium in South Africa, reaching over 88% of the population. Unfortunately for more than 4 million hearing impaired South Africans, experiencing the joy, excitement and entertainment of music and radio (something so many of us take for granted) is nothing more than a dream!
September is World Deaf Awareness month and this year the Luv Your Ears Foundation have partnered with Shekinah and Cape Town Radio Station, Heart FM, to raise awareness and donations to deliver hearing aids and vital hearing healthcare services to under resourced hearing impaired communes throughout South Africa. |
This September, Luv Your Ears and Heart FM with the help of Cape Hearing Aids challenged musician Shekanah to go #DeafForADay, with the mission to raise awareness for hearing impairment in the hearing world. Listers are encouraged to donate to the cause via the Heart FM "Back-A-Buddy" page!
We believe experience is the teacher of all things, we hope the #DeafForADay initiative will allow participants and everyday South Africans to better understand the everyday struggles of being hearing impaired."
